The current combat packs really are amazing and give you items which altogether are probably 3x worth the amount equivalent priced aurum. However with the return of the BPO's I think they should be updated to include the BPO's and make sure that each pack contains the same amount of items as I know that whilst the Minmatar one gives rep tools the Caldari one has no equipment whatsoever so it would make more sense to balance them out.
I was a strong supporter of the merc packs so a way they could return is by introducing a mercenary pack for each race which would include all of the content from the combat pack but then also include that races BPO's. Right now we only have the Quafe but the packs themselves could be updated once every few months to change the BPO skin. Another way would be to just have set BPO's with race specific colours. (State Assault BPO, Federation Scout, Imperial Sentinel)
I live in the UK so I may be wrong on the prices for the US packs but i'll use $ for comparisons as it probably the easiest to do conversions from.
The combat packs currently cost $4.99 and as the old merc packs used to cost $20. Obviously that is a big jump in terms of pricing so each merc pack should include the 5 racial BPO suits (scout, logi, commando, sentinel and assault) as well as (since we all know they are coming) the racial rifle and maybe sidearm BPO. I'll give an example for viewing purposes:
Caldari Combat Pack
The state is actively sending mercenaries to Molden Heath, buy this pack to show your loyalty to the state and they will reward you with a ton of new gear to help your journey as a mercenary and make a name for yourself.
Includes a variety of advanced and prototype AUR gear (Contents of the Combat Pack) and BPO's to get you started. Also included is a 30 day Caldari Faction Booster (was in the combat pack as well) to help you fight for the State in Faction Warfare.
- State Assault BPO - State Logistics BPO - State Commando BPO - State Scout BPO - State Sentinel BPO
-State Rail Rifle BPO - State Magsec SMG BPO
Obviously what the perfect amount of BPO's to put it is up in the air as it should grant this new player variety with what they can play with however I think that it would be great to stick to that $20 price point. For Caldari it wouldn't be bad to offer the State Sniper Rifle BPO or State Swarm Launcher BPO as well however even offering 3 Light weapon BPO's would create unbalance as the amarr only have 2 Light Weapons and 1 sidearm.
The old merc packs also used to give the exact amount of equivelant Aurum for the price of the merc pack. (40,000 to be precise). With all the BPO's I'd say it would be fair to reduce that to 10,000 or 20,000. It should be enough for a new player to be able to pick out some suits or weapons or equipment they are interested in but at this stage they wouldn't be buying proto AUR gear anyway so not an excessive amount of AUR should be in the pack.
I'd love to get a dev reply on this and the pack is clearly aimed at bringing in new players and giving them variety whilst also hooking them in to the lore of EVE and the 4 major factions. Even though it's aimed at new players it should be avaliable for everyone to buy as I know I'd buy it straight away.
I'm open to feedback and will update the thread if needed. |

so monthly merc pack for 20 dollars that include one bpo drop suit race relative ( one merc pack per race per month) 40 000 aur and 1 30-day passive boosters like the old days. limit one per psn per month. ( i'll buy that every month)
-change suit class monthly Not a bad idea indeed. The old elite pack can include 3 BPO's or whatever and that was priced higher, at $40
Echo it isn't that costs, it's the same price as the old merc pack and I know that sold tons. It's not mandatory to buy. |

True Adamance wrote:Reminds me that the Amarr Dropsuits contained within these packs is a ******* **** poor representation of their respective faction.
Unlike the Gallente, Caldari, and even the MInmatar who all receive unique;y skinned dropsuits the Amarr only get their respective "Neo" variations with Orange highlights.....
******* ORANGE ARE YOU FOR ******* REAL?
Where the the Imperial Navy White and Black?! Where is the Royal Khanid Navy Navy Blue, Silver, an Tan?! Where is the Amarrian Templar's Red and Gold?
Nope no effort for the Amarr yet again. We're shafted by our own developers even in terms of monetised packs..... You know that can be changed and since they are supposedly fixing the raider scout g-1's colours, they may as we'll fix the imperial assaults. But what do you think about the idea though of bringing back merc packs? |

'Gold'. It's not gold. Gold is what's on the Templar Sentinel...... it's orange. Just like how CCP ruined the "Caldari Prime" event rewards by making the State Protectorate Suit oranage and the sniper rifle purple. I mean Arkena really? Have you ever known an Caldarian to be "that" fabulous? I have. |

Booby Tuesdays wrote:Given that most BPO dropsuits cost 10 american dollars, I would say your proposal would cost at least 50 american dollars. That's just the dropsuits. I suppose they could toss in 10k Aurum as well, and 1 BPO racial weapon? That is true but if you look at the combat packs for example, their include 2700 advanced or proto items in them which means their value is well over $10 but it's sold for 4. The old merc pack included the Dragonfly Assault BPO and the 'Toxin' Assault Rifle BPO so maybe include a racial specific Dropsuit and weapon and either change them every couple of months or have put a couple of packs on the market with different combinations. The old $50 pack was the elite pack then the $100 was the veteran. the elite pack could include at least 3 Dropsuit BPO's and 2 weapons because remember, CCP already include lots of value in their combat packs why not do the same with the higher tiers. |

Thokk Nightshade wrote:If they are going to do a full racial variant BPO (Scout/Assault/Logi/Commando/Sent), they could just package THAT and sell it for $50-$60 and I'm sure there would be quite a few takers. I don't have any BPO's so if I could buy the entire spectrum of Caldari suits in BPO, I'd be willing to shell out a pretty penny. Or do a "mix and match" where you can pick any 3 of the same race's BPO's for $35-$40. Then you can "add on" a single weapon BPO (racial only so Rail Rifle for Caldari for example) for an extra $5-$10. I'm not sure how much of a discount they are giving for buying in bulk or packages, but with a little incentive to buy more suits at once to save on the overall cost, they could really ratchet up the amount of cash they are bringing in. With how Rattati has been improving this game, more people are willing to start buying aurum again. This is exactly the idea I had. I'd also buy the full Caldari range eventhough I already have the dragonfly assault. Coming from a open beta player: I'm willing to start buying AUR again. |
